Unfinished business

  • Location: Largo Camões

It is not always necessary to spend a lot of time on the completion of  every sketch. Often, several unfinished sketches can form a narrative that is more interesting and that can say more about a place than a single, finished drawing. We are going to explore Largo Camões with pens, pencils and watercolours, looking at how unfinished sketches can sometimes say more about a place than meticulously completed drawings. Largo Camões is a historical and recreational part of Lisbon, and we will try to capture a sense of this place in our sketches. We will work with simplification of both line and colour, trying to avoid overworking. We will be capturing more of the moment, for example by writing down bits of conversations or sounds we hear, or bringing typography and symbols we see around us into the picture.
